TOK Exhibition

Theory of knowledge (TOK) plays a special role in the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Program (DP), by providing an opportunity for students to reflect on the nature of knowledge, and on how we know what we claim to know. It is one of the components of the DP core and is mandatory for all students. The TOK requirement is central to the educational philosophy of the DP. The exhibition is an essential part of the TOK course, and it provides an opportunity for our students to showcase their understanding of TOK concepts. We believe that the exhibition will be an enriching experience for everyone in our community, and we encourage everyone to attend.

Inspiring Minds: A Journey of Education, Life, and Gratitude

Education is not only restricted to textbooks and classrooms; it covers a larger knowledge of life, purpose, and the pursuit of achievement. Australian International School Dhaka, promotes complete growth while inspiring pupils to attain their best potential is of highest significance. In a recent engagement project, the school invited Dr. Shahpar Nahrir, a parent of IBDP 1 students Maryam and Amina Bushra, who discussed her life experiences, opinions on education, and important life advice. Dr. Nahrir, having a background in neurological surgery at Evercare Hospital, wants to teach students the significance of hard effort, persistence, and thankfulness in their path towards making a significant effect on society. The Australian International School’s dedication to offering a well-rounded education goes beyond academic differences. Recognizing the relevance of real-life experiences and ideas, the school regularly invites guest speakers to share their tales and viewpoints. Dr. Nahrir’s visit provided an encouraging opportunity for both students and parents to obtain vital insights from her professional skills and personal journey. Inspiration and Purpose: Dr. Nahrir’s principal purpose was to urge students to work hard and apply their knowledge to benefit others. With her training in neurological healthcare, she underlined the great duty and honor of helping mankind via the area of healthcare. By sharing her experiences, obstacles, and triumphs, Dr. Nahrir stressed the value of being focused and dedicated to one’s chosen professional path. She urged pupils to persist despite failures, realizing that setbacks are an intrinsic part of any road towards achievement. Furthermore, Dr. Nahrir reminded students and parents to be grateful for the blessings bestowed upon them. She encouraged them to acknowledge and appreciate the opportunities, talents, and support they have received. By fostering an attitude of gratitude, she highlighted the power of humility and the positive impact it can have on personal and professional lives.  The Australian International School’s strategy of inviting guest lecturers like Dr. Shahpar Nahrir illustrates its desire to offer a well-rounded education that goes beyond the bounds of the classroom. Through her motivating comments, Dr. Nahrir not only pushed students to follow their objectives with unyielding commitment but also reminded them of the significance of empathy, hard effort, and thankfulness. Her thoughts serve as a reminder that education is not only about academic successes, but also about developing people who are compassionate, resilient, and determined to make a good impact in the world.

DP CAS Fair 2023

In addition to the Pohela Boishakh concert on the 11th of May, the DP-1 students held a CASFair where they created stalls and sold food and games. Well spoiler alert, it was a majorsuccess! Teachers and students of all grades came to visit the stalls and they were buyingeverything. The gaming stall held by Adian and Mashnoon was never empty. We should havereally brought more food. The CAS fair was a fulfilling experience for all the DP-1 students as we are going to donate theprofits to charity. This was quite an experience for all the students of DP-1 as there was a lot ofwork needed to be done in short amounts of time especially with the crowds. Having to managethe food efficiently while managing the change was quite a challenge for all the stalls butthankfully the students managed to keep proper accounts. This was the first time DP-1 students created a stall like this and we should have been moreprepared for the tremendous crowds, especially the Primary and pre-primary students. Sincesome stalls did run out of stock pretty fast, we should have been more aware of the amount ofstudents in the school. But overall it was very successful, there was no one without food sothere was no worries about that. Everyone seemed to have a very fun time.

Learning about Basics of Economics- Guest Lecture by Mr. Rehan

On the 7th of May, Mr. Rehan (father of DP-2 Student Turab) came to visit the DP-1 to give abrief lecture on economics and globalization and why it is important to understand these topicswhether we are an economics student or not. Mr.Rehan explained various different interesting points such as the amount of countries materials were imported from to create a single product. He explained demography and why it is crucial to maintain an even balance especially when it comes to age, since new generations are coming along and older generations are retiring. He discussed why we should read many different academic journals and news around the world. This lecture was so exciting as he brought up so many surprising facts about different companies and how integral globalization was. This brought a lot of perspective to us IB learners about the real world and what is to be expected in the future. This was especially beneficial to the Econ students as they learnt some real life examples from a proper economist.
