Preparing Students for Global Success

The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) at Australian International School (AUSIS) offers students in Years 6-10 a comprehensive, internationally recognized education designed to develop critical thinkers and global citizens ready for 21st-century challenges.

Our Middle Years Programme delivers an exceptional educational experience through the innovative International Baccalaureate MYP framework. This globally recognized approach ensures our students receive world-class education that develops critical thinking, creativity, and intercultural understanding. The MYP’s inquiry-based learning methodology prepares students to become confident, independent learners ready for future academic challenges, including the IB Diploma Programme and other advanced studies.

At AUSIS, MYP students don’t just learn—they thrive. Our program encourages students to learn through inquiry, developing natural curiosity and independent thinking skills. They embrace cultural diversity by learning multiple languages and appreciating different perspectives, while exploring global issues through six interconnected global contexts.

Students develop conceptual understanding by engaging with complex, real-world situations and master learning strategies through our comprehensive Approaches to Learning Skills. They take meaningful action by applying knowledge to serve their community and reflect critically on their role as responsible global citizens.

Our state-of-the-art campus provides students with exceptional learning environments designed to support every aspect of their education.

The academic facilities at AUSIS include a modern IT laboratory equipped with desktop computers, speakers, overhead projectors, and cutting-edge 3D printing capabilities. Our specialized science laboratories for physics, chemistry, and biology provide hands-on learning experiences, while creative arts spaces feature a fully equipped art room and music studio with digital recording software.

Students can showcase their talents in our performance auditorium, designed for theatrical and musical presentations. The comprehensive library houses over 4,000 books and offers 24/7 digital access through KOHA automation software, ensuring students have access to resources whenever inspiration strikes.

Eight Subject Areas

The MYP curriculum encompasses eight essential subject groups that provide a well-rounded education. Students study Language and Literature in both English and Bangla, while developing additional language skills through French and English as an Additional Language course. The program includes Individuals and Societies, Sciences, and Mathematics, complemented by creative subjects including Arts (Visual Art and Music), Physical and Health Education, and Design.

What stands out in the MYP is Interdisciplinary Learning, which encourages students to make connections between different subjects. This approach not only reinforces long-term learning but makes it more meaningful.

Global Contexts for Learning

Every subject is taught through six global contexts that help students see connections across disciplines: identities and relationships, orientation in space and time, personal and cultural expression, scientific and personal innovation, globalisation and sustainability, and fairness and development. This approach ensures students understand how their learning applies to real-world situations and global challenges.

Essential Skills Development

Beyond academic content, we focus on developing crucial 21st-century skills through our Approaches to Learning framework. Students strengthen their communication abilities, expressing ideas clearly and confidently while developing social skills through effective collaboration with diverse groups.

Self-management skills encompass organization, emotional regulation, and reflection, while research capabilities include information and media literacy. Critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and knowledge transfer complete the skill set that prepares students for future academic and professional success.

Multilingual Education and Cultural Celebration

Our language program celebrates diversity while ensuring strong communication skills. Students engage with English and Bangla Language and Literature courses, develop proficiency in French through our Language Acquisition program, and receive support through specialized English as an Additional Language (EAL) courses when needed. We actively celebrate students’ mother tongue languages, creating opportunities to learn from each other and foster appreciation for different cultural backgrounds.

Sports and Extracurricular Excellence

The sports program at AUSIS offers comprehensive opportunities for physical development and competitive excellence. Indoor activities include table tennis, martial arts, chess, and board games, while outdoor sports encompass football, basketball, handball, cricket, and badminton. Swimming and aesthetic movement programs complete our diverse offerings.

Regular tournaments and weekly club activities provide platforms for students to excel beyond the classroom, developing teamwork, leadership, and competitive spirit in supportive environments.

Our assessment philosophy balances continuous growth with formal evaluation to support student development. Formative assessments throughout each term provide ongoing feedback, while summative assessments at term completion measure achievement. Comprehensive semester reports cover all eight subject areas plus skills, behavior, and attitude, using IB MYP achievement levels ranging from 7 (excellent/outstanding) to 1 (very poor).

Year 10 students complete a significant Personal Project under expert supervision, investigating global issues they’re passionate about. This capstone experience allows students to demonstrate their learning across all MYP subject areas while pursuing individual interests.

Recent Personal Projects showcase the creativity and dedication of our students. “Na Bola Kotha: A Youth-run Initiative” promoted art and literature through an illustrated awareness book, while “Composing Electronic Music: The Digital Age of Listening” explored modern electronic music as cultural expression. Students have also investigated “E-Commerce: The New Outlet of Business,” analyzing the evolution and future impact of digital commerce, and created innovative solutions like “Talos: Voice Automated Plant Pot,” which integrates nature into urban environments through technology.

Classes run from 8:10 AM to 3:00 PM, structured as seven 50-minute periods with recess and lunch breaks. After-school activities include sports practice and weekly clubs, with seasonal adjustments made for winter and Ramadan schedules.

With class sizes capped at 25 students, we ensure personalized attention that encourages confident participation, free expression, and meaningful collaboration. This optimal learning environment allows teachers to know each student individually and tailor instruction to their

The MYP at AUSIS serves as a crucial bridge in each student’s educational journey. It builds upon the strong foundation established in our Primary Years Programme while preparing students for the academic rigor of our Diploma and WACE Programmes. This seamless progression ensures students are well-prepared for their next steps, whether pursuing higher education or entering the workforce.
