Nurturing Curious, Confident Learners Through the IB PYP Framework

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP)

At Australian International School, Dhaka (AUSIS), we believe education should ignite curiosity, build character, and empower students to shape their world. As an authorized IB World School since March 2018, we proudly offer the globally recognized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students aged 3-12. Our IB PYP curriculum provides the ideal foundation for international education in Bangladesh, combining global standards with personalized learning approaches.

The IB Primary Years Programme transforms traditional education through its inquiry-based, transdisciplinary approach. Students explore meaningful questions about themselves and their world through six powerful themes:

Who we are: Understanding identity, relationships, and well-being

Where we are in place and time: Exploring orientation in place, space and time through histories, cultures, and the drivers of change.

How we express ourselves: Discovering the diversity of voice, perspectives, and expression.

How the world works: Investigating natural and scientific principles, place, space and time through histories, cultures, and the drivers of change.

How we organize ourselves: Examining human systems, structures, and networks, and how they shape our communities and decisions.

Sharing the planet: Learning about living together and sustainability through interdependence, rights, and coexistence

This framework connects different subject areas—mathematics, languages, sciences, arts, and social studies—creating learning experiences that mirror real-world complexity and relevance.

At AUSIS Dhaka, we blend the best international educational approaches:

Western Australian Curriculum provides structure and benchmarks

Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) guides our play-based early childhood program

Expert PYP educators facilitate rather than lecture, empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey

Beyond academic knowledge, the International Baccalaureate PYP develops essential Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills:

Communication: Expressing ideas confidently across languages and formats, while actively listening and engaging with others.

Social: Collaborating effectively and resolving conflicts peacefully

Self-Management: Building organization, resilience, and mindfulness

Research: Finding, evaluating, and using information ethically

Thinking: Developing critical, creative, and analytical reasoning

These transferable skills prepare students not just for further education but for the complex challenges of our changing world.

At the heart of the PYP is the IB Learner Profile—ten attributes that shape well-rounded individuals:

Inquirers

Knowledgeable

Thinkers
